At the end of 2021, the Education International Exchange Association of the Ministry of Education responded to our school’s application for the “New Youth Global Competency Talent Training Program”. Following research and expert evaluation, our school was approved to join the “New Youth Global Competency Talent Training Program”. Shanxi University of Finance and Economics became one of the first universities in the country to participate in the “New Youth Global Competency Talent Training Program”. The New Youth Global Competency Talent Training Program is a new era youth quality and ability training program established by the China Education International Exchange Association directly under the Ministry of Education to innovate talent training models, accelerate the cultivation of high-level international talents with a global perspective, international communication ability, and international competitiveness. Out of the first batch of 59 selected universities nationwide, which includes 35 “Double First Class” universities and “Double First Class” discipline construction universities. Our university is the only one selected in Shanxi Province.
On April 15th, the “New Youth Global Competency Talent Training Project” and the online opening ceremony of the “New Youth Class” were held in Beijing, sponsored by the China Education International Exchange Association. The event was attended by Yu Yougen, Deputy Secretary General of China Education International Exchange Association, Yin Kai, Executive Vice President of China Education International Exchange and Training Institute, Ma Yansheng, former Vice President of Beijing Foreign Studies University, and representatives from more than 100 universities across the country. Mi Zichuan, member of the Party Committee Standing Committee and Vice President of our school, Zhang Weiguo, member of the Party Committee Standing Committee and Vice President, Vice Dean in charge of teaching from the Academic Affairs Office, International Exchange and Cooperation Office, relevant colleges, and student representatives attended the conference online.
The New Youth Global Competency Talent Training Project is a pioneering initiative by our school, designed to boost students’ political determination and cultural confidence, international understanding and cross-cultural communication, international competitiveness, and participation in global governance. This project adopts the “999 model”, which combines classroom and practice, establishes a POWER teaching model that integrates online and offline, and connects online courses with offline workshops. The course is divided into spring and autumn seasons, aiming to enhance students’ job and work abilities in large state-owned enterprises, multinational corporations, foreign-related institutions, international organizations, mass media, and government departments. The focus is on cultivating students’ patriotism, expanding international perspectives, and enhancing cross-cultural communication skills.
In recent years, our school has continuously innovated to develop exceptional talents. Relevant colleges have also established advanced classes to nature high-quality international talents and actively expand diversified educational and teaching resources. This time, in combination with the actual situation of our school, in order to comprehensively improve the international level of education, promote the cultivation of international talents, continuously improve the quality of undergraduate education and teaching in our school, and vigorously expand the global perspective and growth space of students, the school has selected students with excellent character and academic performance from national first-class majors to participate in the “New Youth Global Competence Talent Training Project”. With the strong cooperation of relevant colleges, a total of 40 outstanding students from 14 national first-class undergraduate majors in their second and third years were selected to participate in the “New Youth Global Competency Talent Training Program” and form the “New Youth Class”.
The New Youth Global Competency Talent Training Project represents a significant effort by our school to enchance the quality of international talent development. The Academic Affairs Office and the International Exchange and Cooperation Office are working together to focus on the future talent needs of the country. We will take this opportunity to continuously explore new models of cultivating high-level international talents with international competitiveness, and further enhance the level of international education and social influence of our school. The school will concentrate its advantageous resources and carry out the implementation of the “New Youth Global Competency Talent Training Project” with high quality, cultivating high-quality international talents in finance and economics with Chinese sentiment, international perspective, global vision, professional proficiency, proficiency in foreign languages, comprehensive skills, courage to compete, good communication skills, and integration with China and foreign countries, laying a solid foundation for the school to carry out various international talent training projects in the next step.
