EWIE Research Institute is a corporate research institute within East-West International Education Group. It focuses on the research of international education development trends, international academic cooperation models, and advantages of international curricula. Additionally, it is involved in research and development activities supporting EWIE’s growth. These activities include developing international education resource, evaluting international education development, creating international education cooperation project development, and developing international curriculula.
Based on years of experience in international education cooperation, the EWIE Research Institute invited domestic, British, and American curriculum experts in 2007 and 2009 to design and develop two academic preparatory courses: International Foundation Certificate (IFC) and International Pre-Master Program (IPMP). Both preparatory programs are one-year duration. The design goals of the IFC) and the IPMP are to enhance Chinese students’ academic English proficiency, foster their independent living skills, learning and develop their abilities in learning, research, and cross-cultural understanding (international understanding). The courses are structured according to international standards, and utilize high-quality teaching materials recognized in China and globally. They aim to meet project design goals and specified teaching requirements, offering practical help for students to study abroad.
So far, the above two preparatory programs have been officially recognized by nearly 300 disciplines and majors across more than 100 universities in countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Ireland, and the Czech Republic. In the United Kingdom, IFC can substitute for preparatory courses in many British colleges. In the United States, many colleges and universities grant credit exemptions for this preparatory course, and some granting up to 27 credit exemptions.
In China, the International Undergraduate Preparatory Program (IFC) and the International Master Preparatory Program (IPMP) are conducted collaboratively across over a dozen universities, including Zhejiang University, Central China Normal University, Shanghai International Studies University, Sichuan International Studies University, Sichuan University, Chongqing University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Ocean University of China, South China University of Sun Yat-sen University, and Xinhua College of Sun Yat-sen University. The annual enrollment is nearly 1,000. Over the past decade, these initiatives have enabled more than 10,000 students to successfully pursue studies abroad.
