On March 4, 2022, Ocean University of China and the China Thailand Higher Education Cooperation Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the “China Thailand Higher Education Alliance”) held their first online work seminar together. Theseminar marked the first collaboration between the two organizations since Ocean University of China joined the China Thailand Higher Education Alliance as an executive council member last year.
At the meeting, E Xuewen, Secretary General of the China Thailand Higher Education Alliance, introduced the establishment and development of the alliance. Zheng Xiaodong and Li Jingyu from the School of Fisheries at Ocean University of China respectively introduced the progress and achievements of the new agricultural and aquatic alliance at Ocean University of China and the China Thailand Ocean and Aquatic Center. Both sides jointly discussed the current situation, needs, content, and approaches of cooperation in higher education between China and Thailand. The two sides have the same goals in serving the country’s “the Belt and Road” construction, deepening China Thailand higher education exchanges and cooperation, and promoting higher education to serve regional economic development; Complementary advantages in terms of higher education resources and information, international talent training models and experiences between China and Thailand; Consensus has been reached on focusing on the Maritime Silk Road and strengthening the exchange and cooperation between China and Thailand in maritime related universities. The China Thailand Higher Education Alliance hopes that Ocean University of China can leverage its advantages as a leading discipline in the field of ocean and aquaculture, and collaborate with well-known domestic maritime universities to establish the “Ocean and Fisheries Professional Committee” to contribute to the further implementation and deepening of China Thailand higher education exchanges and cooperation.
Li Weidong, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department of Ocean University of China, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Li Weidong stated that the school attaches great importance to the cooperation between China and Thailand in science and education, and hopes that the China Thailand Center and the New Agricultural Science and Fisheries Alliance can actively connect, identify cooperation points, innovate cooperation models, and make significant contributions to building a “community with a shared future in the ocean” and enhancing cooperation and exchanges between China and Thailand.
The Alliance of China- Thailand Universities was established in Kunming, Yunnan in October 2020. This open international education cooperation platform is supported by the China Education International Exchange Association and and was jointly initiated and advocated by 14 universities and educational institutions from China and Thailand. The alliance is committed to enhance higher education exchanges between China Thailand, promoting China Thailand higher education exchanges and cooperation within the framework of the “the Belt and Road” initiative and Thailand’s national development strategy, and promoting higher education to serve regional economic development.
